Snowfalls that blanketed parts of the city over the weekend didn't just bring a dumping of white to the ACT - they also brought traffic jams.
Traffic queues of more than an hour were reported along some roads near Namadgi National Park and Corin Forest where snowfalls were heaviest, as Canberrans clamoured to experience the snow close to home.
Many of the cars that ventured out were ill-equipped to handle the snowy and icy conditions, leading to vehicles becoming bogged and needing to be towed out, only adding to the traffic.
One person was taken to hospital after their car ran off the road near Mount Franklin in Namadgi National Park.
Nick Daines, assistant director for National Parks and Catchment in the ACT, said while many drivers did the right thing on the weekend, some were unprepared for the snow.
"There was incredibly busy traffic on both Saturday and Sunday as the snowfall started to come in," Mr Daines said.
"Quite a few people had to have their vehicle recovered and police gave assistance.
"One of the cars still hasn't been recovered."
It's estimated more than 15 centimetres of snow fell in some areas of the ACT during the weekend.
Mr Daines said while Canberrans always flocked to see the snow when it fell in the ACT, the size of the most recent falls led to roads to the snow being even more popular.
"We do get quite a few snow events during the year, and each time they are popular," he said.
"But because we haven't had as many snow dumps this year, and so much snow fell, it created the perfect storm of people not having had a chance earlier in the year and there being such an impressive one this time."
Many roads were closed to two-wheel drives due to the large amount of snow.
