A school in Canberra's north was placed on lockdown briefly last week while police attended a school in the south after students were reportedly carrying sharp objects.
An incident between students took place at Calwell High School last week. No one was harmed in the incident, which school authorities reported to ACT Policing.
It is understood that a few students at the high school, located on Casey Crescent in Calwell, brought what school authorities later described as "sharp implements" to the campus.
Calwell High School management reported the matter to ACT Policing and later sent an email to parents mentioning "more than one student was in possession of sharp implements on school grounds".
The ACT Education Directorate confirmed the incident, with a spokesperson stating that the department is "working with the students involved and their families".
"No students or staff were harmed, and their safety and wellbeing always remain our highest priority. Weapons, sharps, or anything that may be perceived as a weapon are not permitted on ACT public school grounds at any time," the spokesperson said.
The south Canberra high school was in the news previously after it was placed on lockdown ten times in 2022. WorkSafe ACT had to step in to ban students from years 7 and 8 from the campus for alleged violence towards staff members.
The Harrison School on Wimmera Street was placed on a brief lockdown last week following alleged threatening behaviour by a student on campus. The school authorities alerted the police following the situation.
An ACT Policing spokesperson said about 1pm on June 30, police attended Harrison School following reports of a student making threats and refusing to leave the school grounds.
"The student was located by police a short time later. There was no knife involved in the incident and no charges were laid," a police spokesperson said.
