Canberra's first bath house ready to take the splash

Canberra's first bath house opens in Braddon on Monday.

Adytum's health and wellness retreat on Lonsdale Street also includes an elixir bar, apothecary lab, day spa and "mindfulness lounge".

The bath house features a traditional hot rock sauna, Japanese oak mineral bath and a cold pail shower - a first for the national capital.

The new retreat, located in the Branx building, across from Assembly, hoped to open in late August or early September but was scuttled by lockdown.

But with restrictions lifting, Adytum's owners intend to open it from Monday, operating seven days a week.

Manager Renee Stinson said its ultimate goal was to "help guests achieve harmony within the self".

"It is our opinion that wellness is far more than being free from illness. It's a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing," she said.

Ms Stinson said the retreat would offer massage, acupuncture and naturopathy while the bath house featured hot and cold therapies.

"The Elixir Bar addresses nutrition and will serve an entirely organic and vegan range of herbal teas, elixirs and cold-pressed juices, as well as a range of nourishing edibles for dining in or takeaway," she said.

"We're also proud to have partnered with local business Prism, who have sourced and roasted an organic, fair trade, coffee blend for us.

"The Apothecary Lab will dispense our range of small batch, certified organic formulations, including candles, teas, soaks, oils and our very popular incense."

Ms Stinson said in line with the ACT government's COVID restrictions, Adytum would open to a maximum of five clients at any one time in addition to customers at the elixir bar and apothecary lab. Spaces will also be sanitised after each appointment.

The new retreat is located at 101/16 Lonsdale Street.
