Canberra man who allegedly attacked woman with lit aerosol can pleads not guilty to attempted murder

Canberra man Daryl Robertson, 52, will fight an attempted murder charge but has admitted intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Robertson allegedly attacked a woman with a lit aerosol can in Canberra's north in September 2022, and was charged in December.

Appearing in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge but denied trying to kill the woman.

ACT police arrested Robertson after responding to reports of a woman's screams in a Charnwood backyard.

Police said when they arrived they observed the woman had suffered serious burns, as well as stab wounds and other lacerations.

She was treated by ambulance officers on the scene before Robertson was arrested.

Today, he appeared via audio link in the ACT Magistrates Court where he entered pleas.

He has been remanded in custody until the case reappears in court next month.
