Canberra look to close ALW season on high

Canberra United's rollercoaster A-League Women's campaign wraps up on Thursday when they face Brisbane in the last game of the regular season.

While all other teams completed fixtures on the weekend, United and the Roar will play out their twice-delayed, dead-rubber fixture at Perry Park with neither side able to move from their current ladder position.

After failing to win their first nine games, United are unbeaten in four matches and have kept clean sheets in three of those, perhaps leaving fans questioning how last season's finalists took so long to find their feet.

After a season of ups and downs, postponement and player unavailabilities, young United forward Holly Caspers summed up the campaign.

"It's flown by - time flies when you're having fun," she said.

"As soon as the season started it was go, go, go, this last game against Brisbane has come up so quick.

"It was quite disappointing at the start of the season, the girls have really good culture and we get along really well so not coming away with a win for a while was pretty disheartening.

"It's been really nice to see the team can lift together and finish strong."

The Roar, who will be playing their third game in six days, have also finished their campaign with a bang in winning their past three contests.

They will finish sixth, also a fall from grace for them after playing in last season's semi-finals.

It will also be Matildas midfielder Kartina Gorry's final game with the club before she heads to Sweden Damallsvenskan outfit Vittsjo GIK.
