Canberra's arts and events calendar is steadily filling up for 2022, with the Canberra International Music Festival announcing its program for the 10-day event in April and May.
The theme will be Pole to Pole - a musical adventure taking listeners around the globe, reminding us of the diversity of the planet, even as we've all had something of a shared experience.
Artistic director Roland Peelman said the festival aimed to celebrate diversity.
"From the tropics to the poles, from the mountains to the deserts, people have always looked for ways to traverse the difficult spots and, finding new routes to venture through, while enjoying the comfort of our coastal tracks," he said.
"Next year's festival is about those routes. It's about those tracks, those trails, and what we discover along the way; the wonders of nature."
The program, which spans 10 days and includes 41 events, will include early works from Spain, new music from Australia, the Middle East, and the "very best" of European traditions.
"We are presenting Polish music like never before and will be shining a light on our neighbours, the land of the long white cloud," Mr Peelman said.
"Then there is Blue Poles, the Jackson Pollock painting in the National Gallery of Australia, which will see a concert of newly commissioned work at the gallery."
There will also be several free events, like the Ears Up Dog Concert - a concert for our four-footed friends and their master - specially attuned pitch material for hyper-sensitive ears, Soundwalks - acoustic ecology through silent group walks, and Daily Drill - a series of free lunchtime concerts at the ANU Drill Hall Gallery.
