Canalside terrace bar to open underneath Holiday Inn

A canalside terrace bar underneath a city centre hotel is set to open on Saturday as outdoor hospitality resumes its first weekend of trade.

It will be a big day for bar and restaurant staff across Manchester as people flock to pub beer gardens and bars following the relaxation of lockdown rules.

Roby 1844, situated across two levels, is located beneath the Holiday Inn on Aytoun Street.

It was named after the original Victorian Roby School next door.

Bosses promise a 'relaxed ambience, awash with festoon lighting, waterside seating, music and an outdoor bar'.

It will serve up a street food menu, including a selection of burgers, sandwiches, platters and a vegan menu, with dishes such as Vegan Dirty Fries, Corn Ribs, and Pulled Jackfruit baps.

Punters can enjoy a range of beers, spirits, wine and cocktails, with local suppliers 7 Brothers, Manchester Gin and Three Rivers Gin featuring on the menu.

Canal barges will also be able to stop by at the bar - with passengers able to moor and disembark for drinks in the sun.

Live music will also be played from the venue in the summer months.

Steve Julian, manager at The Holiday Inn, said; “We’ve got such a great space by the water and wanted to create a standalone destination, perfect for after work drinks, weekend socialising and get togethers.

"People are welcome to head down for a drink, a bite to eat or both – at the moment, no booking is necessary.

"It’s a great place to sit and watch the world go by, and enjoy spending time with people, especially after being apart for so long.”

Roby 1844 opens at 12pm on Saturday, April 17 .

No bookings are required and walk-ins are welcome.
