Canal cleanup leads to 12-year-old boy being reunited with his stolen bike

This is the heartwarming moment a 12-year-old Dublin lad was reunited with his brand new bike after it was stolen from him just weeks after he got it.

The boy's new wheels were taken by a gang of young thugs in Brickfield Park earlier this month.

But thanks to a local environment group and the local community garda, the youngster was reunited with his precious two-wheeler after it was discovered in a local canal.

Gardai remind cyclists 'rules apply to you too' after number of fines issued for same breach in Dublin city centre

The Inchicore Environment group came across the bike while cleaning up a section of the Grand Canal.

The group contacted Community Garda Graham O'Neill who was able to trace the bike back to its delighted owner.

Gardai shared a picture of the lovely moment Garda O'Neill presented the bike to the lucky lad.

Writing on Facebook, they said: "This 12yo boy had his bicycle stolen from him in Brickfield Park, Dublin 12 on the 1st May by a group of youths.

"The bike was brand new and he had it only a couple of weeks.
