Canada's newspapers are in turmoil. Journalists at Montreal's The Gazette have rejected a contract offer and may not be locked out by their CanWest management, just as happened last week to staff at Journal de Montréal.
Editorial staff at The Globe and Mail are outraged at proposals for a 10% work force reduction affecting 80-90 jobs. Quebecor is cutting 600 jobs from its Sun Media chain.
