Is this the most brutal band break-up statement of all time?

In a huge loss to the music world, Canadian doom rock band Witchrot has split up.

But nothing could have prepared its 5,000 Facebook followers for the reasons why this happened.

They were explained with brutal frankness by its lead member, “Peter”.

“Due to the unfortunate reality,” the statement read, “of our guitarist f****** my girlfriend of almost 7 years WITCHROT will be taking an extended hiatus.

“I however will continue the band in another space and time, being ripe with hate the music is slowly flowing and without a doubt will become the most devastating, torturous music I have ever created.

“Thanks for the support, stay heavy – Peter.”

It then added: “Also our drummer died…”

The post duly went viral, being shared thousands of times in exposure the Toronto band could never have dreamed of when it was active.

By comparison, a YouTube video of its EP posted earlier this month was shared zero times.

There were no further mentions of the drummer’s “death” elsewhere on the Facebook page.

In one review of Witchrot’s music, one fan wrote: “I've assaulted several people while listening to their music.

“It is truly inspirational.”
