A Canadian man was arrested in Krabi following a chase involving 30 police officers after he hijacked a car and fled, causing panic among the public.
The car’s owner, Natthapong, 35, said he had parked his vehicle to pick up his child from school on Friday evening, when a foreign man suddenly opened the door and sat inside without saying anything.
He was shocked and felt something was wrong, so he decided to drive to the police station nearby to seek help.
Upon arriving there, Mr Natthapong got out of the car to find an officer. The Canadian suddenly moved into the driver’s seat and sped away, the victim said.
Police immediately radioed all units in the area and more than 30 officers were deployed to pursue the stolen car along Utarakit Road in downtown Krabi.
The fleeing Canadian and the vehicle were eventually stopped in front of a convenience store near Krabi Hospital amid panic among local residents.
Police said the suspect appeared to have been drunk.
Michael James Parton, 43, was taken into custody and charged with theft.
