A mum-of-two is one of the 10 victims killed in a deadly stabbing spree with her son devastated that she won't see his 16th birthday, it has emerged.
A total of 10 people have been killed and 15 hospitalised in a mass stabbing incident at an Indigenous community and in other towns nearby in Saskatchewan, western Canada.
Lana Head was tragically killed and the ex-partner and father of her two daughters Michael Brett Burns confirmed the news to APTN saying her current partner also died on Sunday.
Mr Burns said the community where the freak violent incident occurred is still in mourning and guarding its privacy.
He said many family members were struggling with the loss and he visited Melfort Hospital to spend time with them.
Police are searching for a pair of men named Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, who they believe may have attacked "multiple" victims and are now on the run.
The police have warned residents in the area around Regina, the provincial capital, to not leave their homes until more information about the suspect's whereabouts is known.
The attacks took place in 13 locations across James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon in the state of Saskatchewan.
Three victims have been identified so far, according to friends and family members who spoke with local media.
Friends and family have begun paying tribute to Ms Head on her Facebook page, with her son tragically writing: "Mom. You never got to see my sweet 16."
He continued: "You never got to see my sweet 16... that we both dreamed so much about. I never got to say goodbye. I’m going to miss you so much. I don’t know what to do without you.
"Please reply to me and tell me this is all a dream.. please come and let’s visit in your car."
One friend Jenn Sanderson wrote: "I love you and say prayers for your children, grandchildren, your family. I am going to miss your sweet hellos and messages. I will forever cherish your sweet demeanour and caring ways."
Wes Petterson, a 77-year-old widower who frequently helped out his neighbours, was also reportedly killed.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Twitter : "The attacks in Saskatchewan today are horrific and heartbreaking. I’m thinking of those who have lost a loved one and of those who were injured.
"We are closely monitoring the situation, and urge everyone to follow updates from local authorities. Thank you to all the brave first responders for their efforts on the ground."
The dangerous pair were last sighted driving a black Nissan Rogue with licence plate 119 MPI in Saskatchewan’s capital of Regina, about 200 miles south of the attacks.
"Still reeling as to what happened at JS. In total disbelief that were taken from this world in that horror. I will miss our chats and seeing your chipmunk cheek smile", one heartbroken friend said about Ms Head.
Teresa Stewart continued: "May you be guided into the spirit world wrapped in comfort, peace and love. May that comfort, peace and love also be enveloped around your children to give them strength. My condolences to them and to all your loved ones. RIP."
