Can you walk your dog and go outside if you are self-isolating from coronavirus?

The public have been told to avoid non-essential social contact - particularly those who are vulnerable - as the Government outlines new measures to tackle coronavirus.

Speaking at a press conference after an emergency Cobra meeting on Monday afternoon, Boris Johnson issued a series of new guidance such as working from home and avoiding pubs, clubs and theatres.

In more extreme measures, groups particularly vulnerable to coronavirus will be asked to stay at home for 12 weeks by the weekend.

The advice for those showing symptoms of Covid-19 have also changed to cover entire households.

But it has left some, particularly dog owners, wondering if they were in self-isolation, if they are allowed to leave their homes to walk their pets.

Tory backbencher Dean Russell (Watford) asked whether pet owners will be able to walk their animals if they are forced to self-isolate in the Commons on Monday afternoon.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in response: "People should go outside. Yes, walk your pets, but, if you're in household isolation, do go outside but try to avoid other people.

"It's very important that we look out for each other as communities and people do get the exercise that they need."
