Sky Sports crowd noise: Can you turn it on or off for Preston v Cardiff City

With the return of professional football to our screens has also come a fair few changes.

Both the Premier League and Championship have resumed action as they bid to complete the season after coronavirus brought the sport to a grinding halt back in March.

Sadly, the most noticeable change for both leagues will be the fact that fans are unable to attend games in person, with matches taking place behind closed doors to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

That means fans are left to watch their beloved teams compete from home.

For games being shown on Sky Sports, the new fake crowd noise feature during some matches is something that's going to divide opinion.

No fans inside grounds means no real life crowd noise either, so Sky Sports is plugging the gap by linking up with EA Sports FIFA to produce the “bespoke and team-specific” crowd noises and chants in a bid to add some atmosphere to fans’ experience of viewing at home.

Cardiff's fixture against Preston on Saturday, June 27, is being shown on both Sky Sports main event and the broadcaster's football channel.

The crowd noise is automatic for viewers watching on both channels, so football fans watching at home are stuck with it.

Main event is channel 401, and Sky Sports' football is channel 403.

It differs from the set-up for Premier League games, where fans can alternate between main event and the Premier League channel depending on whether they'd rather watch it with crowd noise or without.
