Can you travel to Scotland from England?

With the coronavirus lockdown easing at different speeds across the UK within the devolved nations, it can be difficult to keep track of the latest rules.

While England is ahead of the other countries in the reopening of venues and permitting staycations, is it considered safe to travel across the border into Scotland?

On Friday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced a further relaxation to the country’s lockdown rules.

This included a change to travel restrictions in ending the five-mile guidance in place for leisure trips, where Scottish residents were previously advised to stay within their local area.

However Ms Sturgeon has urged caution and said that while residents can travel further to visit family, they can only do so if they can get there and return on the same day.

There isn’t a legal limit in place to how far you can go, but she advised Scots to “use your good judgement.”

From July 10, extended households can be formed which allows those who live alone, or with children under 18, to meet with one other household indoors without social distancing, and they can stay overnight.

Other changes have been made to the hospitality sector in Scotland, which allowed cafes to reopen outdoor spaces, and pubs to welcome back revellers to beer gardens from July 6.

And the use of self-contained holiday accommodation - such as cottages, lodges and caravans with no shared services - and second homes is also now allowed.

Meanwhile, Wales also eased its "stay local" restriction from Monday, meaning residents in England can enjoy its beaches and countryside.

But the country's First Minister has warned visitors to behave safely and respectfully of the land.
