Can you take driving lessons or your test in Tier 2?

Learner drivers and instructors have been left feeling confused over whether driving lessons and tests can resume under new coronavirus rules.

All driving lessons and tests were suspended when England entered the second national lockdown on November 5.

But with the lockdown due to be lifted on Wednesday and replaced by Tier 2 restrictions in Liverpool, people have been left asking what the new rules are for driving lessons.

RED, one of the UK's biggest driving schools, says it will "resume driving lessons and in-vehicle training throughout the whole of England (in Tiers 1, 2 and 3) from Wednesday December 2".

But Government guidance has not mentioned whether or not driving lessons, theory tests and practical exams will be allowed in either Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3.

ChronicleLive asked the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) if driving lessons can take place in all Tiers.

The DVSA said a decision has not yet been made.

A DVSA spokesperson said: “Discussions are continuing around what the new tier system means for testing and training and DVSA will issue more information this week.”
