Can you take children into supermarkets? Rules at Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and more

As the coronavirus lockdown continues, supermarkets have established rules to ensure the safety of customers and colleagues.

People are being asked to queue at least two metres apart, and most stores are operating a one-in, one-out policy to stop aisles from becoming too crowded.

Some stores have banned adults from shopping together, as they encourage only one person per household to buy the groceries.

But can you take children into supermarkets?

While Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and others are all asking people to bring fewer family members where possible - none have banned adults from bringing their children.

While your family should be staying at home as much as possible, supermarkets appreciate that young children cannot be left alone, and there's therefore no restriction on shopping with your kids.

If your children are older and can safely be left alone, you might choose to leave them at home while you buy your family's food.

As per the government's coronavirus lockdown, people can leave their house to buy essential groceries, although ideally this should only be done once a week.

You can also leave the house to exercise, help a vulnerable person, or go to work (if your job cannot logistically be done at home).

Supermarkets have established designated shopping hours for the elderly or NHS workers, and many are prioritising the vulnerable for their online delivery slots.
