The launch platforms for a new MLB The Show game are always a topic of discussion before one is released. Whether it’s players wondering if this is the year that MLB The Show finally comes to PC, or players seeing if last-gen consoles are supported, knowing what platforms the new game is available on is always of major interest to the community.
Well, with MLB The Show 26 right around the corner, players have once again begun to wonder about its platforms. Specifically, though, there’s been a ton of interest in whether or not the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. This is the first opportunity for an MLB The Show game to launch on the new console, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Sony and Nintendo are on the same page.
Is MLB The Show 26 Coming To Nintendo Switch 2?
MLB The Show, as a franchise, has been launching on the original Nintendo Switch for several years. This was a pleasant surprise to the community when it first happened, as the franchise had been exclusive to PlayStation for the majority of its life. However, with MLB The Show 21, the doors opened to the Xbox One, and the year after, with MLB The Show 22, the Switch was brought on board as a launch platform.

Since then, it’s been those three consoles for the franchise, though many fans are still eagerly awaiting the day of a fully-supported PC port. Of course, in 2025, we saw the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, and many fans assumed that MLB The Show would include that new console as a launch platform for the next version of the game, which is MLB The Show 26.
Unfortunately, MLB The Show 26 will not be arriving on the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches on March 17. There is no dedicated Switch 2 copy of the game planned for the launch or in the near future.
While there’s no current official reasoning behind this decision, our best guess for why the Switch 2 isn’t receiving a dedicated port is due to the original Switch. The developers at San Diego Studio likely couldn’t figure out how to make a new-gen version of MLB The Show 26 that would run efficiently on the original Switch in the timeframe they were given (the Switch 2 launched in June 2025).
However, even with this news, there is still hope for players who traded in their Switch for a Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch copy of MLB The Show 26 is backwards-compatible with the Switch 2, meaning you can buy the Switch version of the game and it will run on the new console. The Switch version of MLB The Show 26 is available in the Nintendo e-Shop on the Switch 2 for pre-order right now, so all you have to do is buy it, install it, and you’ll be able to play when the time comes in March.
Of course, MLB The Show 26 on the Switch 2 won’t be able to take advantage of the console’s improved graphics or performance since you’ll be using the last-gen copy of the game. Most fans would take that over not being able to play on the Switch 2 at all, though.
It remains to be seen if San Diego Studio will ever launch a dedicated Switch 2 port for MLB The Show 26 after the initial release window. If they don’t, then we can likely expect a full Switch 2 version with the release of MLB The Show 27 in 2027; although, this would presumably mean the original Switch will be cut out entirely.
Either way, hopefully, the Nintendo Switch version of MLB The Show 26 runs smoothly on both consoles and includes most, if not all, of the features coming to the PlayStation and Xbox ports.
