Staycations are back on the cards for those in England with lockdown restrictions easing to allow for overnight stays away with members of your household/support bubble.
The easing of rules came into force today (April 12) allowing for stays in self-contained accommodation with no shared indoor facilities. So think the likes of holiday parks, campsites, caravan holidays and self-catered cottages holidays. (We have a wider guide on the holidays you can or can't go on following the latest updates).
Wales had already opened these up at the end of March for Welsh residents - and now it's eased up border rules to allow for travel in and out of the country too.
That means that if you're living in England, you can now book a holiday in Wales as you can cross the border between the two countries.
There are some caveats; you'll need to be travelling with members of your own household/support bubble, and only self-contained accommodation will be on offer. Still, that means a choice of holiday parks, campsites and holiday cottages. (In fact, a number of holiday parks have reopened sites across both destinations.)
While holidays are back on the cards, some restrictions in Wales do differ to those in England. For example, outdoor hospitality has reopened in England - but in Wales, these aren't due to reopen until at least April 26, something to take note of if you are planning a trip in April.
It's not just England that Wales has reopened to - it's any country within the UK or wider Common Travel Area (Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands). You can find out more on gov.wales.
However, any visitors are bound to the restrictions of the country where they live.
So for those living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, holidays aren't back on the cards just yet as overnight stays away from home are still banned. In Scotland, it's hoped that this restriction could be eased from April 26 when it's hoped that tourist accommodation could reopen in the country.
