Can you be fined for taking your child out of school and how much is it?

Schools are set to reopen in England and Wales from September 1.

It follows Scotland and Northern Ireland where students' have already returned to the classroom.

The return to school marks the start of a new academic year and follows an unsettled end to the previous one due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Boris Johnson is urging parents to send their children back to class when schools reopen to all pupils from September.

The UK's chief medical officers have insisted they will be safe, and have claimed children are more at risk of long-term harm from missing school than from coronavirus itself.

And minister also launched a #backtoschoolsafely campaign to assure parents the right steps have been taken to get their children back into their education.

However, some parents will admittedly be worried about sending their kids back to school.

Unfortunately this doesn't mean they can't send them back without there being consequences.

Parents will only be fined for refusing to send their children back to school as 'a last resort', minister or school standards Nick Gibb said.

He warned that fines could be issued to parents who refuse.

Local authorities can fine parents £120 – cut to £60 if paid within 21 days – over a child's absence from school, with the threat of prosecution if they fail to pay.
