Can tradespeople still do work inside Scots homes during lockdown?

Household mixing is pretty much off the cards for most Scots during the new lockdown imposed earlier this week.

Scots across the mainland have been ordered to stay at home as the number of coronavirus cases continues to accelerate across the country.

Concerns over a new strain of Covid-19 have been growing in recent weeks.

Nicola Sturgeon said that the more-transmissible variant was accountable for around 50% of new cases reported on Tuesday.

But there are certain circumstances in which you can visit someone inside a private property - such as providing care for a vulnerable person or to join up with your extended household.

There has also been some exceptions made for tradespeople entering into someone’s home during the strict stay at home measures.

Workers will be allowed into the property to carry out essential work or services.

Tradespeople must keep two metres apart from the people who live there, wear face coverings and follow good hand and respiratory measures.

Examples of essential work or services listed by the Government includes:

  • to carry out utility (electricity, gas, water, telephone, broadband) safety checks, repairs, maintenance and installations
  • to carry out repairs and maintenance that would otherwise threaten the household’s health and safety
  • to deliver goods or shopping, where essential
  • to deliver, install or repair key household furniture and appliances such as washing machines, fridges and cookers
  • to support a home move, for example furniture removal
  • domestic cleaner providing services in support of a clean and safe living environment for people in vulnerable circumstance, living with a disability or otherwise unable to clean their own home.
