The Houston Texans produced 13 carries for 45 yards, and a touchdown on the left side against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.
Although the Texans were able to come away with a convincing 37-21 victory over the Jaguars at NRG Stadium, the Texans’ ball control offense needs to be at peak efficiency in order to give Houston a shot against more formidable opponents.
Coach David Culley told reporters Wednesday that the missed time from left tackle Laremy Tunsil and the position switch of Tytus Howard from right tackle to left guard weren’t a big factor in the missed production.
“I think in this particular ballgame, it just happened that way,” said Culley. “I mean, it wasn’t so much that it was because of we weren’t as effective there. We went the other way, we were more successful doing that, and basically, we’ll end up continuing to do that.”
Overall the Texans’ run game was successful with 160 yards and two touchdowns churned out on 41 carries. However, it was the center and the right side of the line that made up for the best parts of the running game.
Houston wants to improve their run game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
“Obviously we want to be able to go both ways and be able to go wherever we need to go to be able to be successful,” said Culley.
