Can the Quad effectively counter China’s influence?

Can the Quad effectively counter China’s influence?

“A free and open Indo-Pacific.”

That was the promise after the first summit between the leaders of Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

The so-called Quad group agreed to cooperate on the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and security.

The summit voiced support for the rule of law, democratic values and a region unconstrained by coercion. So what can the four nations achieve?

Presenter: Dareen Abughaida

Guests:

Fei-Ling Wang – professor of international affairs at Georgia Institute of Technology

Jabin Jacob – associate professor in the department of international relations and governance studies at Shiv Nadar University

Andy Mok – senior research fellow at the Center for China and Globalisation
