Can the Connor Goldson Rangers contract situation be allowed to continue? - Monday Jury

Now we know the semi-final line-up, is there any stopping England at Euro 2020?

Keith Jackson: The Italians have been the best team in the tournament since it all kicked off in Rome. Yes England are building momentum but Roberto Mancini’s side will take some beating.

Gordon Parks: There’s no panic. Denmark had their name on the trophy from the first moments of the competition and as usual the hyperbole around England ’s chances are off the chart. Ukraine were rank rotten but the Danes will deliver a reality check.

Scott Burns: England were impressive against Ukraine but my money would still be on the other side of the draw. The Italians, probably, look stronger than Spain.

Gavin Berry: England’s name looks to be on the Henri Delauny Trophy. Ukraine were poor during the tournament but England were impressive and they can edge Italy in the final.

Were Celtic right to hand Leigh Griffiths a new one year contract?

(PA)

Jackson: It looks like a marriage of convenience at this time. Celtic need bodies and Griffiths needs games. If Ange Postecoglou can get the best out of him then the big Aussie will have won an unexpected watch.

Parks: Yes. In an age where there’s a lack of decent finishers in Scottish football, a new contract on less wages is sound business. If he grabs his final chance then Celtic will be rewarded with goals

Burns: They probably were right to gamble. He won’t be on as big a contract as he was before and if it is incentive-based then it can get the best out of him. It could save Celtic a fortune in the transfer market if it pays off.

Berry: On reduced terms and an incentive based deal then it makes sense. If he can get his attitude spot on then we know what he can do. With the Odsonne Edouard situation, having Griffiths could be crucial.

Connor Goldson has not signed a new contract, can Rangers afford to let him go?

Rangers' Connor Goldson kisses the trophy as he celebrates winning the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox Stadium (PA)

Jackson: No. Goldson has been a rock in Steven Gerrard’s defence and the club will have to push the boat out to make sure that he stays.

Parks: Yes. He’s holding out for better on the back of a good season but he’s nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. Decent but no more than that. The bottom line is that if he believes he can get big money elsewhere they should wish him good luck.

Burns: He would be a big loss. He has been one of their top performers but Rangers also need to protect themselves if he doesn’t sign a new deal. They’re likely to have suitable replacements if he does go.

Berry: Talk of potential Ibrox departures always seems to surround Alfredo Morelos and Glen Kamara and the defender barely gets a mention. His contract situation is a slight concern and Steven Gerrard needs him as the rock of his side.

Is it time for Andy Murray to hang up his racquet?

Jackson: That’s entirely up to him. Murray showed at Wimbledon that his body is up to it but the real battle is between his ears. If he doesn’t believe he can be a Slam winner again then he might not see the point in carrying on. He’s earned the right to make that decision.

Parks: Sadly, yes. Younger and stronger guys are emerging and his body is now just not able to cope with the demands despite the brilliant moments he gave us last week at SW19.

Burns: It’s clear that Andy is not going to get back to his stellar levels of the past. It is a minor miracle that he is even back playing at this level but it should be up to Andy, himself, to decide when he hangs up his racquet. Nobody else.

Berry: It’s going to be difficult if he can’t compete with the top players and emerging stars.

Does he really want to be hauling himself around the globe to go out in the first week at Grand Slams? The time to call it a day could be coming very soon.
