'Can't unsee it' - Newcastle fans all notice the same thing as new home kit garners mixed reaction

Newcastle United fans have offered a mixed reaction as Castore officially launched the first home kit of their long term sponsorship deal with the club.

As reported exclusively by ChronicleLive last month, the new design sees a return of the popular grandad neck collar that was famously worn in the mid-1990s by Kevin Keegan's Entertainers.

The shirt is described on the website as having "been expertly crafted to be lightweight, highly breathable and moisture-wicking, with enhanced ventilation provided by mesh underarm panels. Made from high-stretch fabric to offer exceptional ease of movement and comfort of fit."

Castore's message ahead of the release was: 'A new start. A new shirt. A new better,' but it appears that their first kit release hasn't been unanimously welcomed by Newcastle fans.

The release of the home kit has garnered a mixed reaction on social media among Newcastle fans, while a lot of supporters have suggested the design on the front of the shirt appears look like a giant number four.

Jimmy Owens tweeted: "I can’t unsee the number 4," while Robbie Bell added: "Anyone else think the giant 4 on the front looks a stupid?!"

Matt didn't hold back in his criticism as he said: "Got to be the worst home kit we've had in years. That collar looks horrendous and makes it look like there's a giant number 4 on the front, plus the 'stripes' just look naff. You'd think if it was the first kit they've made they'd want to start off strong."

Twitter user 'JM55' continued: "All that waiting for a promised classy ‘bespoke’ kit and we end up with this rubbish!"

However, Jaimie Ferguson was a fan of the new kit, tweeting: "Well, it's a yes from me. Might actually have to break my merchandise ban and get this for my lads. Time to stop letting Ashley kill my love for the club."
