A Hooters customer jokingly laments that he “can’t take [his friend] anywhere” after he tried to flirt with the server.
In a video with over 80,000 views, TikToker Bendo (@warriorsheartproject) sits across from his friend Juan at Hooters.
Hooters is an American casual dining chain where female servers must stick to strict appearance guidelines, such as wearing a tight uniform and natural makeup. These standards have made the restaurant a popular dining location for men.
The pair orders a shareable plate of curly fries and a few orders of chicken wings.
“The [server’s] name is Alex. Alex wrote her name on a napkin,” he says, showing that the server drew a heart under her name on the paper.
What did his friend do in response to the Hooter’s server?
Bendo laughs as he points to another napkin across from the one the server wrote on.
“Juan whipped out his highlighter and wrote his name back on a napkin,” he says.
The caption reads, “Can’t take this man no where, also we got out in time out at hooters.”
Bendo doesn’t show the server’s reaction to the napkin, but viewers debate whether she would be flattered by the flirty interaction. According to a post in the subreddit r/AMA, a Hooters server shares what she really thinks of flirting on the job. She notes that the chain encourages the servers to “entertain” guests, “but we all understand that it’s flirting.”
She also doesn’t mind innocent interactions, as long as guests don’t make “creepy” comments.
“The worst is an unsavory comment or saying something slightly creepy,” the poster writes. “Most people are great, though and we get a lot of families with kids or couples and they are there because they genuinely like the wings.”
What did viewers think of his strategy?
Many commenters thought his strategy was genius, saying they would do the same.
“Juan just matching her energy,” one writes. Bendo responds, “And crushing it while doing it. I’m here for it lol.”
“I guess I’m that friend then…,” another says.
“Next time I’m at Hooter’s I’m using this move,” a third adds.
“Wait, we’re not supposed to do that? I just thought we were supposed to label our stuff. Good to know,” a fourth jokes.
One commenter asks which guest got more attention from the server, to which Bendo responds, “We were there to bro out, so we flirted with her and left. It can be innocent fun.”
