'Can't stop scoring' - Everton handed ominous Merseyside derby warning ahead of Liverpool showdown

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to take all three points back to Anfield with a 2-1 win when they take on rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby.

Everton have slipped to 14th in the Premier League having picked up just two points out of a possible 21 and manager Rafa Benitez has come under increasing pressure before a reunion with his former club.

A win for Liverpool could see them move to the top of the Premier League as they sit two points behind Chelsea.

The Reds have averaged three goals per game in the league so far this season and the likes of Mohamed Salah will be hoping this trend continues.

“The Merseyside Derby returns with Liverpool aiming to get revenge after Everton’s triumph at Anfield earlier this year,” said Owen in his BetVictor column.

“That was in the middle of a bad period for the Reds, and now with Virgil van Dijk back fit along with a return to top form from Trent Alexander-Arnold, this should be a lot tougher for the visitors.

“The Reds can’t stop scoring at the moment, and if Messrs. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are in the mood, I think they’ll notch up another victory.”

Liverpool could send a message to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City with a big win at Goodison Park as the race for the Premier League title hots up during the hectic Christmas period.
