Can’t stomach bill delays, Chandigarh administration tells VIPs to cough up for guest house meals, stay

CHANDIGARH: Better pay up soon for that dal makhni and pakodas, otherwise they may cost a bomb!

All outstanding bills for stay and food of officials at UT guest houses have to be cleared within 15 days, else 12% interest will be levied and the total amount deducted from salaries, according to an order of the hospitality department of the UT administration. It goes on to add that in case of non clearance of pending bills before the date of March 31 by government departments within 30 days, services will be discontinued.

Bureaucrats, politicians, judges and other top officials of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other states and UTs avail the facilities at UT Guest House 1, Sector 6, and UT Guest House 2, Sector 18 (earlier known as Panchayat Bhawan). On many occasions, officials have kept bills pending.

Yashpal Garg, secretary, hospitality department, issued the orders on Saturday, a day after he took charge. The defaulters will be sent a copy of the bills and asked request to make the payments.

Besides, all outsourced staff of the department working at other places not under its purview have been removed with immediate effect. The outsourcing agency was to be informed that wages of such persons will not be paid for the period after September 4.
