'Can't reach someone?' Red Cross helps with Register, Find, Reunite website

Bushfires on the Far South Coast have separated families and friends - but there's a way to reconnect.

Police remind all persons residing within the areas affected by bushfires to register online with Register Find Reunite: https://register.redcross.org.au.

State Emergency Operations Controller, Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys, said it was a time to care for each other.

"I would like to take this opportunity to again ask the community to be vigilant, and look out for those vulnerable community members that might need our help," he said.

"I have been glad to see some incredibly heart-warming examples of community spirit over the past few days, and I would encourage everyone to keep looking after each other."

Police are asking the community for their continued cooperation during the unprecedented bushfire emergency, as the multi-agency response continues in fire zones across the state.

Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys, said emergency services were faced with the difficult task of recovery after a devastating day yesterday.

"I want to reassure the community that our officers are working around the clock, in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service (RFS), with the aim of being able to allow people to return to their homes as soon as possible," Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.

"I'm sure everyone can appreciate, emergency services are being faced with a complicated recovery effort, and at the same time dealing with an ongoing bushfire threat.

"Community safety is our top priority. Those subject to evacuation orders around NSW can be assured they will be allowed to move back to their homes as soon as it is safe to do so."

As the bushfire emergency continues, people are urged to obey directions of emergency services and to monitor the RFS NSW website www.rfs.gov.au and www.livetraffic.com for road closures.

Emergency services are also reminding the community not to contact Triple Zero (000) unless there is an emergency.
