Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting with amusement following the reports that Manchester United were closing in on Harry Maguire.
Reports began to emerge on Friday afternoon that Leicester City have agreed a £85m deal for the England international, in what is set to be a world record transfer fee for a defender, surpassing the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.
But for many Spurs fans on social media, the fee the Red Devils are forking out for the 26-year-old is seen as ludicrous, with many questioning why the Old Trafford club never made a move for Toby Alderweireld.
The Spurs centre-back was available for a mere £25m for a large part of this summer's transfer window, and although the Belgium international is no longer available at that price, fans have been quick to point that United have missed a trick.
Maguire is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford in the coming days.
