It’s important to always keep your eyes peeled for thieves, no matter where you are, no matter how safe you think you may be, they can strike anywhere and some are smarter than others. One customer enjoying their meal in the sunshine found this out the hard way when a sneaky thief made off with their plate of food.
Security footage was posted to TikTok by Robinsons restaurant in York where the incident took place. The caption asks viewers to help identify an individual (possibly man or woman) as the restaurant owners would like their plate back.
In the clip we see a woman sitting out the front part of a restaurant with her plate of creamy truffled mushrooms. As she’s about to tuck into her meal, a person in a hoodie and sunglasses approaches with a newspaper. The individual puts their newspaper in front of the woman and it looks like they ask her for advice or perhaps her opinion as she points at the paper.

While the big piece of paper is obscuring her view of her plate the thief sneakily grabs it and runs away with her meal leaving the confused woman staring at an empty table, struggling to process what just happened.

While our hearts go out to the woman, after all, there’s nothing more heartbreaking than your food being stolen when you’re hungry, this might be one of the funniest crimes ever posted to TikTok. Most thieves would go for someone’s wallet or phone, but not this person, they had their eyes on the prize. Who could possibly resist a hot plate of creamy truffled mushrooms?
Viewers found the whole situation to be incredibly humorous with one person writing, “sorry but that’s so funny,” another added, “honestly if someone’s willing to hustle like that to take my meal, they probably deserve it more than me anyway.” A third wrote, “for real, if someone’s that hungry I’d be chasing them down to order them a food shop, a meal and a job all in one.” Hopefully the mushroom thief is doing okay.
The restaurant has appealed to the thief, writing in the caption, “we know the mushrooms will have gone, but we’d like our plate back.” So far there have been no updates on the mushroom thief and whether or not they have returned. Regardless, all we can do is hope that the customer was able to get their creamy truffled mushrooms remade because if she wasn’t hangry before, she certainly would have been after that ordeal.
