Can Rangers hero Barry Ferguson lead Kelty Hearts to the Lowland League title? - Lower League Football Show

With the Lowland League season set to begin this weekend Kelty Hearts title credentials were in focus on the Lower League Football Show.

Host Colin Paterson along with Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser Sports Editor Mark Pirie and East Kilbride News Sports Editor Paul Thomson to discuss the big kick-off this weekend.

Having signed big names like Dylan Easton, and Thomas Reilly for the Kelty title charge, gaffer Barry Ferguson was under scrutiny before they start the season against Dalbeattie Star.

Mark tipped Ferguson for success and Kelty to be lifting the Lowland League title at the end of the season.

He told the podcast: "At Clyde he did struggle particularly towards the end of his spell. He did make mistakes at Clyde.

"He brought in Dylan Easton, who I think is a really good player and will do really well in the Lowland League, but he got injured and there wasn't anyone to replace him, then they tailed away.

"They look like they have a big squad and a lot of ambition there. Players like Scott Linton, who you maybe don't think of right away, is really good at set-pieces."

He went on: "You look at the players they have brought in, they are quality players. Kelty are going to go for it."

However, East Kilbride News Sports Editor Paul backed his local side East Kilbride to become Lowland League Champions once again.

"Kelty finished 18 points behind East Kilbride last season," stated Paul. "That's a huge gap to make up."

He added that he felt the New Central Park boss was under pressure to succeed given the high-profile recruitment strategy: "The money that has been put into this season, there has to be a return to that.

"The pressure is on him because of how it has gone at Clyde. Jobs came up in the course of last season, and was Barry Ferguson really mentioned for them? No.

"He'll put a lot of pressure on himself as well though."
