Can promise sun, moon when unsure of winning: Goa CM Pramod Sawant on AAP

PANAJI: The state government has continued all welfare schemes in Goa even though there was a 90% dip in revenue at the peak of Covid pandemic. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) can promise the sun and the moon because they are sure of not getting elected in Goa, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday.

Also hitting out at Congress, Sawant said that Digambar Kamat as the CM between 2007 to 2012 did not start a single social welfare scheme even though economy was thriving at the time.

“This is a government with a vision and doing its 100% to reach every person. Some are not doing anything in their own state, but they have developed a habit of coming to other states and making promises. One can promise the sun, the moon, and the stars because they know they will never be elected,” said Sawant, during distribution of ex-gratia of Rs two lakh to families who lost a family member to Covid-19.

The CM hit out at Congress, stating that a group was sent to protest at office of the director of women and child development. Sawant said the director, a female, frantically called him, afraid that the mob would assault her.

“I sent my PI there immediately, we found out that this protest was only a political stunt, claiming that they have not received money under Griha Aadhar scheme. If you check only payment of three months is left, all other backlog has been cleared.

From 2007-2012, the state treasury was spilling over with tourism, mining operations on and no stop in any grants. One should ask Digambar Kamat what scheme he implemented back then. At least do not play politics with the schemes we have initiated,” said Sawant.

He said a meagre sum of Rs 1,000 was being distributed under welfare schemes under Kamat as CM.

Despite the pandemic, the state government added new welfare schemes, including 50% cut in college fees, said the CM.
