Can Noida’s private hospitals cope with the Covid crisis?

A few chairs scattered about the pavement serve as the waiting area for relatives of Covid patients admitted in Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. They aren’t allowed inside. Ajay Kumar Mallick, 65, sat in one of the chairs with a sunken face. His wife had been on oxygen support for 24 hours and he did not know if her condition was improving.

Kailash Hospital is one of four private healthcare facilities in Gautam Buddh Nagar district permitted by the Adityanath government in June 2020 to treat Covid patients. Jaypee, Fortis and Yatharth are the others.

Newslaundry went on the ground to take stock of the critical care facilities at the four hospitals. Here’s what we found.
