New Tottenham Hotspur striker Carlos Vinicius is not eligible to play for his new club when they take on Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
While the frontman has completed his loan move for the season from Benfica, football.london understands the announcement of his signing has been made but he is yet to obtain a work permit that will allow him to play in the Premier League.
With Vinicius playing in European competition last season in Portugal, there are no problems expected with getting the permit and he should be available for selection for Jose Mourinho after the international break.
He is expected to receive his permission to play for Spurs on Monday next week and it should be a formality.
Benfica confirmed late on Thursday night that they agreed to loan Carlos Vinicius to Spurs for the season for £2.73m. They also revealed that Tottenham then have an option to purchase him for roughly a further £38m.
The Brazilian had a real breakthrough season with Benfica in the last campaign with 24 goals and 13 assists in 47 games for the Portuguese side.
In a very brief, 12-second clip posted to Twitter, Vinicius said of completing his move: “I wanted to say to everyone that together we’ll taste success.
“I am here to join this family to share your joy and bring home silverware.”
The frontman has been Mourinho's main target for the role to provide backup and support to Harry Kane this summer. Spurs initially moved for the 25-year-old earlier in the window but Benfica's price tag was closer to the £50million mark.
However, the Portuguese side's failure to get through the Champions League qualification stages changed matters.
