Can India control record-breaking COVID-19 infections?

India declared an endgame to the pandemic just a month ago.

Now the country with the world’s second biggest population is recording nearly 300,000 new COVID-19 cases every day.

The region around its capital New Delhi is going into a week-long curfew as hospitals run out of beds and oxygen.

India, the world’s largest vaccine maker, is now limiting exports of jabs to the United Nations-backed COVAX scheme for developing nations.

So, what is the impact on the rest of the world if India cannot get its second wave under control?

Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom

Guests:

T Sundararaman – Global coordinator for the People’s Health Movement

Deepsikha Chettri – Member, UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee

Uday Chandra – Assistant professor of government at Georgetown University
