Can I travel to Scotland? Are hotels open? The new rules on Scottish holidays

Holidays to Scotland can resume for the first time in months when lockdown restrictions ease on Monday, April 26.

It will mean residents of England and Wales can now travel across the border into Scotland for overnight stays.

Visits to family and friends is now permitted - although you cannot go inside their homes and the rule of six applies to meeting up outdoors or two households of up to eight people.

Outdoor hospitality across Scotland is also allowed to resume from Monday, while there will also be a limited reopening of indoor hospitality too.

If you are staying overnight in Scotland it must be in a hotel or other holiday accommodation, NOT inside a friend's house.

What are the new lockdown rules in Scotland?

From Monday, April 26, Scotland moves into Tier three restrictions, which means that non-essential travel can resume, and residents in England and Wales can now stay overnight in Scotland.

Outdoor hospitality will resume, with pubs, restaurants and bars able to serve food and alcohol to people outdoors up to 10pm in groups of six, or two households of up to eight people.

Some indoor hospitality can reopen, but venues can serve food and non-alcoholic drinks only up to 8pm for groups of up to six people.

All remaining shops and close contact services can also reopen on this date.

Indoor swimming pools and gyms are allowed to reopen for individual exercise.

Museums, libraries and galleries are also able to reopen from this date.

Are hotels now open in Scotland?

All tourist accommodation, including hotels, holiday cottages and caravan parks, are permitted to reopen from Monday, April 26.

It is recommended to book ahead and check specific venue requirements before travelling to Scotland.

Who can I travel with?

The current rules mean you must only travel with members of your own household and support bubble.
