Holidays to Cape Verde are back on the cards for Brits after the UK government announced that the country will be removed from the red list from Monday (October 11).
Meanwhile the Foreign Office has subsequently confirmed that it will be lifting its travel advice for Cape Verde, which will allow Brits to visit for non-essential travel.
There's more good news for holidaymakers as Cape Verde is currently welcoming UK travellers for holidays, although there are some entry rules in place.
All travellers will need to show proof of a negative PCR or antigen Covid test taken within 72 hours before travel, or a Covid vaccine certificate. They will also need to fill out an airport security tax form with a £30 fee and fill out an international travel form.
For those who are fully vaccinated, it's worth noting that the country is only accepting a letter version of the NHS Covid Pass, not a digital one.
As for the rules when returning to the UK, Cape Verde will be on the 'rest of the world' list meaning that there is no quarantine hotel stay required, but the rules do differ depending on your vaccination status.
Fully vaccinated travellers returning to the UK will need to take a PCR test on day two after landing (this is expected to be changed to a lateral flow test although the government hasn't yet confirmed a date for this).

For those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, a pre-departure test is required as well as PCR tests on days two and eight, along with a 10-day self-isolation. There is an option to test and release early with a negative result.
Cape Verde was one of 47 countries removed from the red list, which was slashed down to just seven destinations earlier this week.
Within hours of the announcement travel firms noted surges in holiday bookings and searches, with Cape Verde proving one of the most popular destinations alongside the likes of Mexico, Thailand and South Africa.
For example, TravelSupermarket has reported that since the announcement, Cape Verde has become the top location Brits searched for to compare package holiday prices, having previously been in fifth spot.
The island has long been a firm favourite for a winter sun getaway, and it's one of the best hot and sunny destinations in November for those who are considering using up some annual leave with a holiday abroad.
Cape Verde can make for a dreamy break with 10 islands to explore, complete with some utterly beautiful beaches. Sal Island tends to be a particularly popular choice with holidaymakers thanks to the wide array of things to see and do around its shores.
While travel rules are up to date at the time of writing, these can change quickly during the pandemic so if you are thinking of going abroad, always check the latest Foreign Office advice before booking and going on a trip.
