Can I go into work with Covid? Latest on final lifting of UK restrictions

Boris Johnson announced earlier today that all remaining Covid-19 restrictions - including the legal requirement to self-isolate - will be lifted by the end of February.

There are few remaining Covid restrictions left, other than the requirement to self-isolate if you test positive for Covid or if you come into contact with someone who does and you're not fully vaccinated.

So, as all restrictions are lifted, the question arises if people should go into work with covid.

Downing Street has said it would never recommend anyone go to work when they have an infectious disease, reports the MEN.

Asked if the change would mean people could go to work if they had Covid, the PM’s official spokesman said: “So there would be guidance, that would not be what we are recommending.

“What we would simply be doing is removing the domestic regulations which relate to isolation.

“But obviously in the same way that someone with flu, we wouldn’t recommend they go to work, we would never recommend anyone goes to work when they have an infectious disease.”

He added: “We’ve talked about how we will need to manage living with coronavirus as we emerge from this pandemic. We are entering into that phase of endemicity as I’ve talked about, and it’s only right that we adjust according.”

Johnson had previously announced his intention to repeal the measures on March 24, but it now looks this could happen on or around February 24.

Speaking in the commons, Johnson said: "It is my intention to return on the first day after the half-term recess to present our strategy for living with Covid.

"Provided the current encouraging trends in the data continue, it is my expectation that we will be able to end the last domestic restrictions, including the legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive, a full month early."
