Can ewe believe it? Sheep gets trapped in Rossendale back garden football goal

Animal rescuers had to rush to save a stricken sheep — which had got itself tangled up in a football goal.

The sheep was spotted by one resident in Rossendale.

They saw the animal tangled up in a football goal net in their back garden.

What made matters worse for the poor creature was the fact that it had managed to wrap the netting around its neck, which could have caused it some serious injury.

“Sheep are naturally very wary of humans and this sheep did start to thrash as I approached her,” RSPCA inspector Vicki McDonald, who dealt with the animal, said.

“[So] it was really important to subdue her and to get her free before she seriously harmed herself.”

Fortunately for the entrapped ewe, Vicki was able to extract its neck from the net, and it suffered no major damage.

“I checked her over and she was absolutely fine – apart from perhaps feeling a little sheepish,” Ms McDonald joked.

Now, the RSPCA is reminding garden owners to put any football goals away when they’re not being used to to prevent animals becoming tangled.
