'Can do everything ' - Gary Neville makes huge Kalvin Phillips claim Leeds United fans will love

Gary Neville has waxed lyrical over Kalvin Phillips after declaring him as 'the best English midfielder' after his performances for Leeds United.

The Whites midfielder was named as England's Player of the Year in the most recent international break after shining in the European Championships.

Phillips' performance have led to speculation about transfer interest from Manchester City, though the midfielder's agent insisted in the summer that he isn't looking to leave his boyhood club.

Whilst always appreciated inside Elland Road, Phillips can add Neville to his ever-growing list of admirers.

"He came into the Premier League 12 months ago but he's now the best English midfielder there is, by far," Neville told Sky Sports.

"For me, when you think of players, we always try to stereotype players. Is he a holding player, is he an attacking player? He's actually a throwback to someone who can do everything.

"He runs, he tackles, he passes, he can defend, honestly, he's fantastic. He's likeable, he has integrity when he speaks, you like watching him. He runs all day, the stats we see that he produces, the most pressures, is a dream.

"The work you have to do as a defender and midfielder at Leeds is unreal but he really sets the tone, he's a fantastic player."

On Leeds' slow start to the season, Neville added: "I always look forward to watching Leeds play every single time, I think the results they’ve got so far this season are par.

"I’d expect them to draw against Burnley, I’d expect them to draw against Everton, I’d also expect them to get battered off Manchester United and Liverpool the way they play. They go man-for-man and against teams like Manchester United and Liverpool, they’ve just got better individuals. But they will be fine, Leeds.

"They’ll give their fans a great season, they’ll wil games you won’t expect them to and they’ll lose by shipping goals where you think what’s happened there.

"They are a bit disorganised at set-pieces, the disorganisation in the play is wonderful because it’s a thing of beauty. It’s chaos and magnificent to watch and it adds to a brilliant football game.

"So we’re not going to criticise that one thing I would say is chaos then extends to set-pieces when actually that’s a time you could be in shape and more compact and that’s where I would say put a little bit of criticism onto Leeds, they look a little bit all over the place on them."
