Can Crystal Palace keep Conor Gallagher after Chelsea loan? ‘We’ll see what happens’, says Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira says Conor Gallagher’s outstanding form is a “win-win”, even it means it will be harder to keep the midfielder at Crystal Palace beyond his season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

Gallagher was the star of the show and scored a superb second goal as Palace beat Everton 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who is contracted to Chelsea until 2025, has been a revelation since joining from the Blues.

Gallagher has now been involved in almost half of Palace’s 22 Premier League goals so far this season, with six goals and three assists, and has forced his way into the England squad.

Eagles boss Vieira said: “We don’t think about what will happen in the future.

“We have Conor for a year and we are pleased to work with him. I think he is really happy at our place, because being here has allowed him to perform at that level.

“It is a win-win. We will see what happens at the end of the season.

“What is really extraordinary [about his second goal] is we are talking about the 90th minute of the game and he had been running all around the field. To find the energy to score that goal, it takes some quality.

“He is a fantastic player to have. He gives everything to the team and he can score goals. To have a midfielder who can score 10-15 goals is important.”
