CAMRA launches a Summer of Pub campaign with a chance to win a free round this Bank Holiday

Anyone looking for an excuse to go to the pub could find a new campaign being launched by CAMRA to be the ideal answer.

The Campaign for Real Ale is out to encourage as many people as possible to support their local boozer this summer and those timing a visit over the Bank Holiday weekend are in with a chance to win a round of drinks.

Its national Summer of Pub campaign gets under way on May 24 and will run until August 26 with the aim of helping people to rediscover their love for the great British local.

And pubs in and around Newcastle could find themselves benefiting from more foot-flow if it takes off.

CAMRA has launched a Summer of Pub campaign (PR)

CAMRA has written to thousands of pubs across the country persuading them to host celebratory events to encourage pub-going.

And this Bank Holiday weekend the consumer organisation is also inviting customers to tweet photos of themselves using the hashtag #SummerofPub for a chance to win a round of drinks for their party.

Also among its ideas are events such as special screenings of the Women’s World Cup, from June 6 to July 6; raising a toast for Beer Day Britain on June 15 and hosting beer and cider tasting events showcasing local producers.

Camra's most historic pubs in the North East

Ben Wilkinson, CAMRA’s national director said: “You don’t have to go on a march or demonstration to be a pub campaigner - anyone can get involved.

"It’s as simple as heading out for a pint this summer and encouraging your friends to join you."

CAMRA already runs a campaign 'to save the Great British Pub from extinction', saying that a staggering 14 pubs close their doors each week.

Ben added:  “We want to remind the public what makes our nation’s pubs so special.

We want to encourage people to give the TV a break this summer and help them rediscover the unbeatable social network that is their local.

"The clearest way we can all demonstrate how much we value our community pubs and want them to remain part of the social fabric of our country is by using them.”
