Campervan crashes into rail bridge in Ayrshire as police race to scene

A campervan has crashed into a rail bridge in Prestwick this afternoon.

Emergency services raced to the scene in the seaside town's Grangemuir Road.

The motorhome – believed to be a model with a high top – smashed into a low bridge around 2.45pm.

Police have confirmed that the road was briefly closed while they dealt with the stuck campervan.

One eyewitness has told how local residents are concerned that too many high-top vehicles are taking risks.

They told Ayrshire Live: "My thoughts were to warn others about avoiding the area.

"It was an old-style high-top camper on Grangemuir Road. The skylight hit the bridge. It's happening a lot."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.45pm on Tuesday, June 29, police were called to a report of a vehicle stuck under a rail bridge in Grangemuir Road, Prestwick.

"Emergency services attended and the vehicle was safely removed and the road reopened."
