Campers caught trying to start barbecue after being told to leave by Formby park ranger

Two campers were arrested on suspicion of illegally camping, littering and trying to have a barbecue on a National Trust site.

The pair were arrested after ignoring a direction to leave at the Formby National Trust Site.

Officers said the two suspects posed a risk of fire with their BBQ, which could spark dangerous sand dunes fires.

Posting on social media, the force hit out at the two campers and warned of the dangers of lighting fires in open air.

It is not clear when the pair were arrested, although Merseyside Police posted an image of a tent today.

Police said: " Two suspects have been processed by the Police for illegally camping, littering and trying to BBQ in the woodlands on the Formby National Trust Site after ignoring a direction to leave by the Rangers.
