Camper van stopped by police after tip off from public

Police stopped a camper van from travelling any further through North Wales after they were tipped off by a member of the public.

Officers sent the occupants of the camper van back home, after they confessed they were travelling to see family.

Members of the public reported the camper van, which had been parked up in Bangor overnight, to police who turned up and sent them back home - reports North Wales Live.

The family inside the vehicle were planning to travel on from North Wales to the West Midlands to see family before officers intervened.

A spokesman for the Bangor and Bethesda policing team said: "Thank you to the public of Bangor for being vigilant.

"This camper van stayed over in Bangor overnight and was reported this morning.

"The occupants have been spoken to by police and have been sent back home, having been persuaded that travelling to the West Midlands to see their family was not essential travel.

"We will continue to be out on patrol 24/7 and do our utmost to keep everyone safe, but we can't be everywhere all of the time."

Despite members of the public only being allowed to leave their home for very specific reasons, police are continuing to stop people trying to travel to beauty spots.

Yesterday Cumbria Police stopped a family-of-six who were trying to travel to the Lake District from Leigh.

Officers stopped the family's car at Windermere and even escorted them back to the M6 motorway.

Cumbria Roads Policing Unit revealed details of their stop on Twitter.

The unit said: "This family of six (2 adults, 4 children) had come from Leigh, Lancs, for a trip out to the Lake District today.

"Stopped at Windermere and advised to return.

"We are policing all routes into the lakes.

"Escorted back to the motorway. #stayhomesavelives."
