A 61-year-old camper has died after being hit in the throat by a metal tent peg blown at high winds during a storm in Denmark.
Erik Larsen Fjordvald was taking part in a motorcycle event at a camping ground in the north-west district of Thy when the tragedy occurred.
He was packing away his tent on Friday when the peg – released from a guy line – blew up into his neck. Despite being flown to a nearby hospital, he never regained consciousness and died on Sunday.
Police spokesman Joergen Jensen confirmed the incident on Monday morning.
Thy Traef is Denmark’s biggest motorcycle rally attracting more than 5,000 bikers for three days of events, demonstrations and music. It has been running for more than 20 years.
Organisers have not yet released a comment about the incident.
