Camper caught breaking lockdown rules after getting stuck on Loch Lomond island without paddle

A camper was caught breaching lockdown rules after getting stuck on an island without a paddle.

The man, who had travelled from England, was staying on the island of Inchtavannach over Easter weekend.

After going for a walk around the island, he returned to find the paddle from his kayak missing leaving him trapped on the island.

He was forced to call the police to tell them he was stranded around 1.50pm and the Loch Lomond rescue boat was sent to rescue him. The team took the camper back to his car at Aldochly.

Under Scotland's current coronavirus rules, travelling outside your local council area and non-essential travel across the border is not allowed.

A statement issued by the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat last night urged the public to stick to the travel rules.

It reads: "At 1.50pm on Tuesday, Loch Lomond Rescue Boat was paged by Police Scotland. A person that had been camping on the west side of Inchtavannach reported that after going for a walk around the island, he returned to his kayak to find the paddle missing.

"The Rescue Boat was launched and located the person on the island and safely transferred himself and his equipment over to his car at Aldochly. LLRB then returned to Luss and stood down. This person had travelled from England to camp on the Island for the Easter weekend. Please could we remind all to stick to the COVID rules and keep people safe."
