Campaign to help Skegness donkeys get through the winter

A fundraiser has been launched to help a beachfront donkey business survive the colder months and make it to the summer.

John Nuttall's family have been manning the donkeys for three generations but the family struggle during the winter period, reports Lincolnshire Live.

The people of Skegness are now being asked to rally around and lend a hand to Mr Nuttall and his donkeys, as a fundraiser has been set up to pay for the upkeep of the animals until they can be back in action in the summer.

This comes after a large amount of money and jewellery were taken from Mr Nuttall's property.

He told Lincolnshire Live how helpful it is that people are willing to lend him a hand during a difficult period.

He said: "Loads of people want to help out.

"Even if it's just a fiver, it all helps.

"Since lockdown, prices have gone through the roof.

"The price of hay has, if you can even get hold of it.

"My electric bill has gone up. We have to keep the lights on in the barn, especially for our foals."

Mr Nuttall also said that Cheers Bar and Grill, Ingoldmells, has offered to help out by hosting an event.

"Cheers is doing a Halloween party on October 29 and have offered to donate the proceeds to help with the donkeys," he said.

Mr Nuttall also told Lincolnshire Live how difficult winter can be for his business.

He said: "We struggle. We have to be very careful. Luckily, I can do most jobs myself.

"We can't trade all year. I'll do odd jobs to help with the electric and food bills.

"If I couldn't do a lot of the work myself, it would cost me thousands and it wouldn't be worth carrying on. I'd have to pack it in."
