Campaign to help fund funeral of girl, 10, who died after being hit by ambulance

A campaign to help pay for the funeral of a 10-year-old girl who died after being hit by an ambulance has raised more than £3,000.

Shaniqua Loftman-Smith was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the incident in Low Wood Road, near Bulwell, at about 6.30pm on Sunday, December 22.

The ambulance had been responding to an emergency call.

Shaniqua died on Monday, December 30 which police confirmed the following day.

Her aunt, Charmaine Smith, set up a fundraising page to help fund her funeral.

She wrote on the page: "I can not cry enough tears or say anything I haven't already said.

"Please could you try and help by giving my niece the best send off she deserves."

A target of £5,000 has been set and a total of £3,159 was raised in just 24 hours, with more than 200 people donating.

Following Shaniqua's death, Richard Henderson, East Midlands Ambulance Service's chief executive, said: "I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the patient’s family at this very difficult time, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident."

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision investigation Unit are making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the  collision, has any information or dashcam footage is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 650 of December 22.
